Frequently asked questions

How long are lessons?

Our group tuition lessons are 90 minutes long. This gives students enough time for teaching, retrieval practice, guided questions, independent practice and exam-focused work without rushing through important concepts.

How many students are in each class?

Group classes have a maximum of 8 students. Keeping our classes small allows teachers to provide individual support and feedback while students still benefit from learning alongside others.

What platform are lessons delivered on?

Lessons are delivered online using Zoom. Joining instructions are provided before your child’s lesson.

Which exam boards do you support?

Our small-group programme focuses exclusively on AQA Combined Science.

For one-to-one tuition, we support students studying:

  • AQA GCSE
  • OCR Gateway GCSE
  • Pearson Edexcel GCSE
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE
  • Cambridge iGCSE

Please contact us if you are unsure which specification your child is studying.

Are your teachers qualified?

Yes. Lessons at GCSE Science Academy are delivered by appropriately vetted and qualified teachers.

Our teachers are Enhanced DBS checked and hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and/or recognised teaching qualifications such as a PGCE, as applicable to their role.

We believe students should be taught by professionals who understand both their subject and how to teach it effectively.

Will my child receive homework?

Yes. Homework may be set following lessons to consolidate learning and develop exam skills. It may be provided through trusted online education platforms or resources selected by the teacher.

What happens if my child misses a lesson?

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if your child will be unable to attend a scheduled lesson.

Payments are normally non-refundable where a student misses a scheduled lesson. We understand, however, that genuine extenuating circumstances can occur. Where appropriate, GCSE Science Academy may offer a discretionary credit or reduction towards a future payment. Each situation will be considered individually.

What if GCSE Science Academy cancels a lesson?

If we have to cancel a lesson, we will normally arrange an alternative lesson or provide an appropriate credit or refund where an alternative cannot reasonably be provided.

Do you offer one-to-one tuition?

Yes. Alongside our small-group classes, we offer one-to-one GCSE Science tuition for students who would benefit from more individualised support. Please see our tuition options or contact us for current availability.

What age groups do you teach?

Our tuition is primarily designed for students aged 11 and above who are working towards GCSE or International GCSE Science qualifications.

Younger students may occasionally be considered where the programme is appropriate for their level and learning needs.

How do I get started?
